Global Learning at Langley Moor Primary School

At Langley Moor Primary School, we believe that developing our Children as global citizens is vitally important. We began our Global journey, in 2010, and it has gone from strength to strength. We have 'link' schools in many countries of the world, such as Sri-Lanka, France, Ireland and Brazil; we have also welcomed many international assistants and teachers to our school from countries such as Hungary, China and Germany.

Awards

International Schools Award

In 2012 we achieved the British Council Full International School Award. We are immensely proud of this award and it symbolises the importance we place on International learning in school.

Re-accreditation of the International Schools Award

This year we achieved re-accreditation of the award. We are delighted with this achievement and our feedback from the assessor.

This is an outstandingly well-presented and comprehensive Impact Evaluation, which outlines your international education journey in a clear and focused way. You have produced an imaginative curriculum that is based on the core values of global education. This application satisfies the success criteria for the ISA and it is our pleasure, therefore, to recommend Langley Moor Primary School for the Re-accreditation level of the International School Award. The work you have devised and delivered wth your various international partner schools is effective and promises to flourish into strong and sustainable collaborations in the future as you progress through your international work. There are great opportunities for good cross-curricular extension work around the opportunities and challenges facing people who live in the countries with whom you have come into contact like China and Brazil, for example, and comparing with those faced by those living in countries like the UK, Ireland andFrance, for example. In that way, you will be introducing your students to such global themes as 'sustainable living' and 'rights and responsibilities' in an engaging and effortless way.

FairAchiever award Information

We have achieved tthe 'Fair Trade award.' We have shown a commitment to ensuring we teach our children about Fair Trade products, as well as trying to use them in school.

Pupil Voice – The Global Committee

The Global Committee play a huge part in helping us to keep all classes informed, as well as listening to all pupil's views with regard to Global issues. They help us to communicate our global work to parents and the wider community. The committee play an important role in organising International events in school, such as our ‘Global Rights' week!

Events

Global Rights Week

In March we had our ‘Global Rights Week’ in school. The children tried Samba Drumming and Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Arts). In lessons the children learnt about Fairtrade, Global Issues and Rights.  A fantastic week was had by all!

Poppy making headlines

Poppy, the Year 1 Class Bear, has also become our Global Bear. She made headlines last Summer and appeared in the local newspapers! As well as travelling to Sri-Lanka, with Miss Brewis, in 2012, she was lucky enough to travel to Brazil to the World Cup.

We are now involved in a Connecting Classrooms Partnership with Brazil.

In September the teachers from Brazil came to visit our school. Then, in November Poppy Bear and Mrs. Richardson travelled to Brazil. They had the most wonderful experience. In school the children's learning was closely linked to Brazil, furthermore the children 'skyped' Mrs. Richardson, in Brazil. Please take a look at the headteachers section of our school blog to watch the skype session and lots more!
